- A storage tank is needed if you receive your drinking water
from an underground well. The storage tanks used today are the bladder
type that store air in the top portion of the steel water tank. The
water in the tanks moves in and out of a rubber bladder in the bottom
of the tank. The air is not absorbed into the water. Therefore, there
is no maintenance required. When the water is turned on in your home,
the compressed air acts like a spring and pushes the water out of the
water tank, into the supply piping then to the plumbing fixtures.
- It is imperative that the tank is sized properly so the well pump does not overwork.
