WE KNOW HOW WATER WORKS and we know how to make it work better!

Sump Pumps

Gould's Sump Thing-115 Volt, 1/3 hp single phase cast iron,  corrosion-resistant constructed pump with built-in thermal overload protection with automatic reset.  It is an oil filled design with a high strength carbon steel shaft.  It has a built-in vent hole to prevent air binding.

  • Even an inch of water in your basement can cause thousands of dollars of damage, ruin the treasured family photos and heirlooms stored there, and cause mold problems.  As the ground becomes saturated with water, it backs up into the sump pump crock in the home.  The sump pump can pump water from the pit up, out, and away from the foundation.

  • It is important to make sure that the sump pump crock is free of stones, pebbles and debris that can remain from construction, be swept into the pit as a result of cleaning the floor around it, or wash into it with rushing water from a hard rain.  If not, a pebble can become wedged in the impeller and jam, preventing the sump pump from working.  It is not uncommon for older homes to have problems with sump pump crocks disintegrating.  We can help you replace the sump pump crock and check to make sure that discharge piping is still working properly.

  • Check the sump pump regularly to be sure that it is still in good working condition.  Lift off the sump pump cover and slowly pour water into the sump pump pit, watching for the sump pump float to rise and trigger the pump to begin working.  Once the pump starts to work, the water level will go down and the float will shut off again.

  • Sump pumps that run continuously despite an abundance of rain, can mean that the discharge piping is cracked or clogged and does not allow the water to go out at all or far enough away allowing it to run back into the sump pump pit rather than going away from the house.  It can also mean that there is a broken water pipe underground at your home or at your neighbor's home.  Call your county water department to be sure.  Their services are typically free.
