A bit of history...
Ward Manufacturing, LLC was founded in Blossburg, Pennsylvania back in 1924. Mr. Joseph Ward and his thirty employees originally produced cast iron steam and drainage fittings, plugs and bushings. When the demand for housing and materials grew back in 1986, he helped introduce SOFLEX, an earlier prototype of corregated stainless-steel tubing manufactured and widely used in Japan.  

In 1990, Mr. Ward joined with Hitachi Metals American and began to manufacture the unique SOFLEX technology under a new WARDFLEX product name. Soon after, the American Gas Association certified the WARDFLEX system for use throughout the U.S. Since that time, WARDFLEX has gained Code recognition in all 50 states.


Pipe and fittings provide a continuous length of pipe with few if any connections within the walls.  The fewer the connections, the lesser the chance of future gas leaks. Fewer holes are cut in the drywall during installation.

Any Wardflex pipe installed within six feet of the ground, especially when located in a garage or strapped down low to the side of the house, must be protected against damage by a vehicle or lawn mower by a conduit of PVC pipe.

Black Steel Gas Pipe

• Black oxide forms on steel pipe when it is forged during the manufacturing process. 

• Black steel gas pipe is sold in 21 foot lengths that are cut (on site) to fit the particular job then threaded to fit into black malleable cast iron fittings.

• Although the factory coats the steel with a protective oil to prevent rust and corrosion, pipe that is exposed to outdoor elements is painted with black or gray Rustoleum paint for added protection.
  

• We choose to use black steel pipe when the location of the pipe makes it susceptible to damage from lawnmowers or vehicles.

• A licensed gas fitter must install or repair black steel gas pipe.
