- If you smell gas, leave your home immediately. Do not use the light switches or your home telephone, unplug any appliances you were using, turn off your computer or any other appliance on your way out the door. Do not use garage door openers or open any windows. Take everyone with you and leave the area immediately. This is true even if your gas detector alarm is NOT going off. Once outside, use your cell phone to call BGE, your propane supplier, and/or the fire department at 911. Customers who don't use gas in their own homes can still experience a gas leak coming through the foundation wall.
- If you have propane gas and can safely turn off the gas supply valve on the tank, turn it to the right (clockwise).
- Do not go back into the building or area until it has been determined safe. Often the propane retailer or BGE will identify the source of the leak and turn the gas service off until the leak can be repaired.
- Call our office immediately to help with the situation. We can return the gas supply to your home once we repair the leak/s and determine that the gas pipes are safe again.
- Adding the emergency number for BGE on your cell phone now will save precious time when you need it.
